Neil Findlay Celebrates Cancer Research UK’s achievements in Lothian

This week local Labour MSP celebrated the announcement that over £6 million was spent in 2016/17 at the Cancer Research UK Edinburgh Centre, in Lothian.

Cancer remains Scotland’s number one killer, with over 31,000 people being diagnosed with some form of the disease every year in Scotland.

The researchers have been focusing on bowel, brain and breast cancers, working closely with the University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian.

Neil Findlay MSP said:

“The support of people from Lothian and the research being done in Edinburgh is crucial to the fight against cancer.

“We have world class research facilities in our area and some brilliant people working on the problem, but the effort of local volunteers is absolutely crucial in the fight against cancer.

“There are currently 2 local fundraising groups in Lothian, and we had nearly 9000 Race for Life participants, but we could always do with more.

“Please get in touch with Cancer Research UK if you want to volunteer.”
