Local MSP, Neil Findlay, has condemned more cuts to fire services as Livingston could be left with only one fire appliance between Mondays and Fridays.
Following a leaked letter from the Fire and Rescue Service, Livingston, a town with a population of 50,000 people, will have only one fire engine made available to them in case of emergencies.
The downgrading of fire services in this area has the potential to have very serious and life-threatening consequences. Only last week, there was a severe fire in Livingston whereby fire appliances from Bathgate and Sighthill were called to assist the singular fire appliance in Livingston.
Neil Findlay MSP said:
“The public will be shocked to learn of major towns such as Livingston having their fire services downgraded in this way.
“Changes such as this are being done to save money and behind the backs of the communities affected. SNP minister Humza Yousaf must come to Parliament and explain why this downgrade has happened, what analysis has been done to confirm it is safe and why the public were kept in the dark.”
