Neil Findlay MSP has today launched a Member’s Bill that aims to ban MSPs from having second jobs.
The proposals, which will be considered by the Scottish Parliament, will prevent inevitable conflicts of interests and excessive financial gain.
Instead, Neil Findlay’s proposals will ensure that MSPs focus on representing their constituents.
Mr Findlay is currently seeking your views on this matter. The consultation will be open until 2nd May 2019 and can be accessed http://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/MSPSecondJobs/.
Neil Findlay MSP said:
“As a Member of the Scottish Parliament, it is a privilege to represent the people who elected you – that is why I am putting forward a proposal to ban MSPs from having a second job.
“Most MSPs do focus solely on advancing the interests of their constituents. My proposals will ensure that there are no conflicts of interest, which undermine the credibility of the Scottish Parliament.
“Being an MSP is also a very well-paid job. This bill will bring a halt to MSPs gaining excessive additional incomes.
“I want to make sure that people are confident that the political process in Scotland is being run with them in mind.
