Local MSP Says Lessons Must Be Learned from the Goodwillie Rape Case

Following last week’s civil court decision that found in favour of local woman Denise Clair local MSP, Neil Findlay, has written to the Lord Advocate. The MSP is asking for a review that considers why the case never ever made it to the criminal courts, what implications there are for the justice system in Scotland and whether there is any prospect of future criminal proceedings being taken against the two individuals concerned.

Local MSP, Neil Findlay, said:

I want to pay tribute to Denise Clair. Her strength and determination to get the justice she knew she deserved has been remarkable and this decision last week has fully vindicated her quest for justice.

However, last week’s decision also raises big concerns about the original investigation and why the legal system decided not to proceed with a criminal conviction in the first place

We really need to know why and how that decision was made and what, if any, lessons there are for the justice system. That is why I have written to the Lord Advocate.
