Neil Findlay MSP has met with senior management at Ethicon after hearing news of the proposed closure of their plant at Livingston.
Neil Findlay MSP said:
Senior representatives of Ethicon, confirmed that the Livingston plant is profitable and has been throughout its history. They also advised that the quality of product was high and was being delivered by a skilled, loyal workforce.
I urged them to be honest and up front with the workforce about the future of the site and whether they are genuine about seeking a solution that would keep jobs at Livingston. I also urged them to extend the consultation period to 90 days and enter into a genuine dialogue with the Council, Scottish Government, Unite the union, Scottish Enterprise and others who have a role to play in trying to secure future employment at Ethicon; I very much hope that this is exactly what they do.
