The Debt Charity Step Change have revealed how parents accrue more debt than those people without children. The Charity released the figures to local MSP Neil Findlay.
Neil Findlay MSP said:
These latest figures provide further evidence of the debt and poverty that I am afraid are endemic in our society today. Policies from the Tories at Westminster and the SNP at Holyrood have done nothing to help the levels of poverty, indeed they have often exacerbated poverty and inequality which we know leads to an increase of people suffering under a huge weight of debt.
What these figures also show is how children are impacted by debt. It is children who suffer and who do without as a result of debt and poverty: what a terrible indictment on our society.
Only the Labour Party has a plan to grow our economy, create jobs and ensure a real living wage which will provide people with greater protection and a basic level of wages that will decrease the number of people living in debt.
