The Protection of Workers (Retail and Age-restricted Goods and Services) (Scotland) Bill, promoted by Daniel Johnson MSP, last week passed stage one of the parliamentary process with a unanimous vote.
The bill, which seeks to protect retail workers from violence and abuse in the workplace, must pass three stages of the legislative process in order to become law.
Local MSP Neil Findlay has joined shop workers trade union, USDAW, in expressing their congratulations to Mr Johnson as the bill progresses through the Scottish Parliament.
Neil Findlay MSP said:
“I am delighted that this bill passed the first stage of the legislative process. Shop workers helped to keep the country running throughout the pandemic and they should be treated with the utmost dignity and respect. Violence and abuse quite simply should not be part of the job.
