There remains no long-term solution to the parking crisis at St John’s Hospital, despite persistent calls from Lothian MSP Neil Findlay in addition to staff, patients and local residents.
The MSP met with NHS Lothian in late 2019 to discuss both long and short-term solutions to the parking situation however little has been achieved thus far.
After being approached by staff, patients and local residents, Mr Findlay conducted a survey, which highlighted the extent of the problem. It showed that staff morale was detrimentally affected and that often they had to park off-site, using a dimly lit underpass to walk to and from the hospital.
Mr Findlay proposed the option of a multi-story car park at the hospital however NHS Lothian have failed to respond to this seriously.
Neil Findlay MSP said:
“This parking chaos at St John’s must end now. The reality is that there are not enough car parking spaces to accommodate all staff and patients. I have persisted with this issue and will continue to fight for a solution that suits staff, patients and local residents alike
