Neil Findlay MSP has offered his support to Amnesty International’s Football Welcomes campaign, which notes the significant contributions that refugees have made to football across the UK.
The campaign, which commenced in 2017, on the 80th anniversary of the arrival in the UK of child refugees from the Spanish Civil War, has called for communities to welcome people from across the globe who are fleeing from conflict or persecution.
Football Welcomes 2019 will run this weekend, April 27th and 28th, where days of action will take place in football clubs across the Scottish Premiership league, in addition to non-league and amateur teams.
Neil Findlay MSP said:
“I’m delighted to support the Football Welcomes campaign. Football clubs are often at the very heart of our communities and it is only right that we all make a significant effort to warmly welcome those who have endured horrific experiences in the form of conflict or persecution.
“We all have a part to play in ensuring that Scotland is a safe and welcoming place for refugees and asylum seekers. That is why Football Welcomes is so important.
