Neil Findlay MSP paid a visit to HMP Addiewell recently to speak with Cyrenians and Families Outside about family issues relating to those who are imprisoned.
Cyrenians are committed to being a bridge between the family, prison and the community through the development of trusted and secure relationships.
Families Outside is the only national organisation in Scotland that works exclusively on behalf of families affected by imprisonment.
Neil Findlay said:
“When people are sent to prison it can have a massive impact on the finances of families, the stress they experience, and their ability to keep their family unit together.
“Organisations like Cyrenians and Families Outside are helping to provide and increase direct support for families of those who have been imprisoned – and the centre at Addiewell is perfectly placed to offer advice and emotional support to the families of prisoners when they visit their loved ones.”
“This is a great initiative that provides the sort of holistic approach we require when considering how to treat people, and their loved ones, when they are going through rehabilitation.”
