It has been brought to my attention, through recent press coverage that B&M Bargains Stores have been offering prospective employees unpaid trial shifts prior to them being informed whether or not they have been hired. I understand that not all people offered trial shifts are given a job at the end, and that many go unpaid.
I believe exploitative recruitment practises such as this should not be allowed and I call upon B&M Bargains Stores to treat employees, and prospective employees, with the dignity and respect that they deserve.
I call upon this profitable retailer to pay those undertaking trial shifts, thus bringing to an end unpaid, exploitative labour.
Furthermore, I call upon B&M Bargains to offer all employees the real living wage of at least £8.75 per hour regardless of age and to provide workers with a specified minimum number of hours each week.
I urge you to sign this petition in order to end exploitative working practices used by this prominent UK retailer.
